UK’s NEW ‘National Register of Recruiters’ supported by Government

Not-for-profit body, the Institute of Recruiters (IOR), has launched the UK’s National Register of Recruiters, a free-to-list register of UK recruitment firms, increasing their visibility to employers and candidates by ensuring they appear in more online search results. Agencies are being urged not to miss out on opportunities the register will offer as definitive guide to UK recruiters.

The register will be heavily marketed to job seekers, employers and government as a central point to source recruiting firms that meet their needs. With over 75% of hires being driven by internet activity, the register will boost online visibility and reach to the listed recruitment agencies, as well as providing them with huge added potential to attract new customers and candidates, a powerful addition to their online marketing strategies.

Steve Keeler, Head of Government’s ‘Employment Agencies Standards Inspectorate’ (EAS) said:
“BIS/EAS works with all stakeholders in the recruitment sector to ensure compliance with legal obligations. IOR’s National Register of Recruiters should increase awareness of the statutory requirements for recruiters, which is something we support”.

The proper management and utilisation of social networks is essential for recruiters to succeed. Statistics suggest that Twitter, Facebook and, of course, LinkedIn, are being used on an increasing basis by your industry peers. The question is therefore no longer ‘Should I use social media in recruitment?’ but ‘How should I use social media to Read more

When the going gets tough, the tough unite – by David Palmer

I am at my most animated when watching a great game of rugby or watching Ed Balls being interviewed. The first fills me with good feelings about skill, sportsmanship and what can be achieved by a truly motivated team. The second, a display of political points-scoring at a time when we need unity, drives me Read more

Do recruitment consultants provide you with an appealing shortlist and save you time or is the value minimal?

I was once bet a bottle of champagne to prove that Londoners were friendly by going up to three random people, separately and engaging them in a 3 minute lighthearted conversation. Do you get good customer service in shops? Do you get great service in hotels? ARE Londoner’s friendly? The answer to the question about Read more

Earlier this month I attended the UK Recruiter End of Year Conference. CV-Library had a good presence there, as the main sponsors, and it was great to be out of the office and speak to people face to face. It was organised as a conference rather than an event so I found I learnt Read more

Have you ever done it on the first date?

When you first meet your ideal partner, even if it is “love at first sight,” you still wouldn’t propose on the first date. You are almost certain to get a NO! And rightly so… before anyone would make such a commitment you need to develop a relationship and trust with them first. The same applies to potential prospects Read more

The crisis at Lloyds Banking Group last week, when it was suddenly announced that new chief executive Antonio Horta-Osorio was to take a leave of absence at the insistence of his doctors because of a stress-related illness, once again highlights the PR benefits of having a well-thought out and well-communicated crisis plan in place. Unfortunately Read more

Casinos understand gamblers. They know that the vast majority of punters have no strategy, at least not one that they will stick to when the going gets tough. Poor gamblers chase their money all over the table. However, as any professional gambler will tell you, if you have a proven system, then stick to it Read more

I am a Recruiter

As my first article for the Genius Team Blogs I’d like to give a little perspective to my areas of expertise.  Whilst I do indeed run the National Online Recruitment Awards, and AlljobsUK, this work is informed by being, first and foremost, a recruiter.  I consider the role of a recruiter to be uniquely privileged Read more

The global job market – what’s happening right now?

October 25, 2011 4:10 PM written by  Greg Savage · 1 Comment

Instead of a recruitment tip, I am focusing today on the global job market. Is it improving? I travel a lot. Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and the UK just in the last 5 weeks, for example. And that gives me the privilege of speaking to CEOs and top HR people all over the world. Watch the Read more
