UK’s NEW ‘National Register of Recruiters’ supported by Government

Not-for-profit body, the Institute of Recruiters (IOR), has launched the UK’s National Register of Recruiters, a free-to-list register of UK recruitment firms, increasing their visibility to employers and candidates by ensuring they appear in more online search results. Agencies are being urged not to miss out on opportunities the register will offer as definitive guide to UK recruiters.

The register will be heavily marketed to job seekers, employers and government as a central point to source recruiting firms that meet their needs. With over 75% of hires being driven by internet activity, the register will boost online visibility and reach to the listed recruitment agencies, as well as providing them with huge added potential to attract new customers and candidates, a powerful addition to their online marketing strategies.

Steve Keeler, Head of Government’s ‘Employment Agencies Standards Inspectorate’ (EAS) said:
“BIS/EAS works with all stakeholders in the recruitment sector to ensure compliance with legal obligations. IOR’s National Register of Recruiters should increase awareness of the statutory requirements for recruiters, which is something we support”.

Tax avoidance versus tax evasion: What’s the difference?

March 9, 2012 1:04 PM written by  David Thornhill · 4 Comments

Let’s face it; no one really likes to pay tax from their hard-earned money. It’s one of those things in life that we accept and pay – funding the country’s vital services, from the NHS to our children’s education – but wouldn’t it be great if the money came from somewhere else instead? There is a fine line however between illegally not paying tax and deliberately choosing to not pay some of it; Harry Redknapp is particularly familiar with the difference, with a court case for alleged tax evasion currently underway where his financial activities are being heavily scrutinised by the British legal system.

The proper management and utilisation of social networks is essential for recruiters to succeed. Statistics suggest that Twitter, Facebook and, of course, LinkedIn, are being used on an increasing basis by your industry peers. The question is therefore no longer ‘Should I use social media in recruitment?’ but ‘How should I use social media to Read more

Are we Managers or Parents?

Whilst running a Managers training programme the other day I was taken back to my training in Transactional Analysis (a theory of personality) and it struck me how sometimes with the best of intentions, managers can set up ‘unhealthy’ relationships with their consultants. You will be familiar with the term Parent, Adult, Child which in Read more

As a recruitment business owner you can be so busy with poor sales, chasing clients and candidates, as well as responding to emails, that there's hardly time to do what really needs to be done. I was recently reading a book by the great coach and motivational speaker, Les Brown and he shared this story, Read more

On the IOR LinkedIn group David Palmer started a great discussion and highlighted a point that many may be legitimately thinking. He entitled his post ‘Agency extinction within 2 years unless you do something now’. As I write, his post has had almost 200 comments, some very angry, some very passionate, he really has ‘stirred Read more

I was once bet a bottle of champagne to prove that Londoners were friendly by going up to three random people, separately and engaging them in a 3 minute lighthearted conversation. Do you get good customer service in shops? Do you get great service in hotels? ARE Londoner’s friendly? The answer to the question about Read more

Recruitment’s next phase – a cure for cancer

There are some people in the UK recruitment sector that would like you to believe the way forward is to cause division, pit small recruiters against large, as if there is some kind of battle going on. To try and suggest the size of a company implies the ethics of an individual, or that small Read more

Did you know that New Year’s resolutions are a waste of time for most recruitment business owners?

I have just got back from my local gym and guess what; it was absolutely packed with people that I’ve never seen before together with people who I last saw 12 months ago. As a regular member of the gym, this can be frustrating attempting to use the equipment but not being able to, because Read more

How will your recruiters spend their Xmas break?

Lots of booze, mince pies and mistle toe? The Top Billers I have worked with hardly ever switch off, they are always thinking about how they can do better, how they can bill more, earn more and outperform more. How will your recruiters spend the break? In-between the festivities perhaps they will save some thinking Read more
